Adult Education Fall 2017

Do you consider yourself an adult? Do you still love the wonder of learning? Then do we have something for you!

The New Year begins with the first trimester of Adult Education classes at Temple Beth Emeth. The classes that will run from October through December are:

Adult Beginner Prayer Book Hebrew taught by Ruth Bile. Ruth is a wonderful, patient and kind teacher who is ready and able to teach all levels of students, from those who don't even know an aleph from a bet, to those who took Hebrew class to prepare for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah but have not used the knowledge since. This basic course will take you from the alphabet to simple words, using the prayers as your guide. (You may even have a chance to sing some of the songs that are a part of services, no professional ability required.) Classes will be on the following dates: October 12th & October 25th, November 22nd, December 6th, 13th & 21st. Classes begin at 7:30 pm.

There are six classes over the three months, and tuition is $120 for all six. A workbook is also included.

Who Are the Women of Valor? taught by Rabbi Heidi Hoover. In the Midrash (rabbinic interpretation of biblical text), our rabbis read the well known passage from Proverbs, and assigned each line to a different biblical woman. In this course we will learn about each of these women; some well known, and others more obscure. We'll discuss their stories, how tradition sees them, and how we see them. Classes will be held on October 19 & 26, November 9, 16 & 30, and December 14th.

There are six classes over the three months, and tuition is $120 for all six.

The World Of Yiddish Theater facilitated by Cantor Suzanne Bernstein. Experience video lectures and in-person discussion tracing the rapid rise of Yiddish theater from almost non-existent to culturally crucial, from totally amateur to cutting-edge art. Hear stories from the theater's heyday in the early 20th century and watch modern Yiddish performances in the 21st. This is a great opportunity to learn about this fascinating aspect of Jewish history. This class will be held at TBE on October 17, 24, 31 and Nov. 7, all at 7:30 pm. The cost is $36 per person covering all four classes.

To register for these courses call the Temple Office at (718) 282-1596 or email templebeth83@aol.com.
